Year 3 Research Opportunity:

Dear Year 3 Parents,

You may recall that last year, some of our partnership schools partook in a research study with Royal Holloway University, to explore whether or not ‘Same Language Subtitles’ help children to learn to read.

The University are now conducting a follow up study, looking at the impact upon children's reading when regularly exposed to subtitles on television at home.

Royal Holloway are looking to recruit families for their next study, with Year 3 pupils who speak English as their main language at home, have no special educational needs, and watch at least 5 hours of television or streaming services per week.

Families who participate and complete the study will receive a £50 Amazon voucher as compensation for their time.

We are very excited about the next stage of this study, as a school that prides itself on its commitment to academic research and understanding the science of learning. This vital research undertaken by Royal Holloway is shared directly with teachers and schools and enables us to learn more about how children learn and is being carried out by experts in the field of psychology and reading.

We hope that you will consider joining the study - it is a great opportunity to bring science into the home and to enjoy partaking in research together - as well as the opportunity to earn a voucher for watching television!

If you are interested in partaking, please email the University directly, at subtitles.rhul@gmail.com and they will send further details. There is a letter from the University attached below with links to a video that explains the research.
