Pip and Pap Family Workshop Year 1

Pupils and parents at Holy Family enjoyed their Pip and Pap workshop together yesterday, reading Green Phase Book 2 "The Stray Dog."

In this story, Vie finds a stray dog and Vap the Vet comes to help! She adopts the dog, to stop it going to the pound.

This book focused on the letter-sound correspondences 'ay', 'ou', 'ie' and 'ea'. Pupils read sentences such as "The dog has no lead. Vie thinks that it must be a stray dog," and "Vie plays fetch with the dog and teachers him some tricks! The dog is eager to impress Vie!"

Pupils and parents then completed an oracy activity, talking about what to do if they find a stray animal and who to contact. They also talked about the responsibilities of pet ownership.

Then, they made their own little dogs together, with split pins and paper plates! Aren't they fantastic?

We run a parent workshop each week in Years R-2, please ask your child's class teacher for more details.
