Year 5 blog:

Year 5 have had a wonderful term and, as always, have been working so hard and having lots of fun at the same time! Here are some of the exciting things we have been up to:

Our Maths Learning

We have been learning all about fractions, decimals, and percentages, making lots of links to previous learning and really thinking deeply about how they are used in everyday life. We have also spent time reviewing the four operations to ensure that the children’s arithmetic skills are secure.

“I’m proud of the amount of questions I have been able to do. I have learnt more about bus stop method for division because it links to fractions.” - Kaile

“I’m proud that I learnt how to use bus stop.” - Nadia

“I have enjoyed seeing how well I can do with the daily maths recap.” - Charles

“I like Maths because it helps me with my grappling skills and each time I grapple I learn something new.! - Nikola

“I like that I was able to work with different people when we get into groups for problem solving because I get to know them better.” - Eric

“At the beginning of percentages I didn’t really understand what percentage means but now I understand quite well.” - Daniel

Our Writing Learning

We have spent the half term creating a flashback narrative, which all of our children are extremely proud of. They have demonstrated a lot of stamina for a longer piece of writing and shown they can cope with a plot that jumps between multiple timelines. Excellent work!

“In writing, we have been writing a flashback about an old man who is a world war one veteran, and the flashback is about him watching his friend die in the war. I’m most proud of the sympathy and sadness I created for the reader.” - Daniel

“I’m really proud of my handwriting in publishing this time!” - Joey

Other subjects…

Science: “ I have enjoyed the experiments, such as testing water resistance by putting different shapes of playdough in water.” - Milena

“Computing is fun and we sometimes get to create our own games.” - Cohen

“I got to make my own game and I like cracking the codes to purple mash.” - George

Geography: “I really enjoyed how first we understood about how money works. It’s not a simple thing like “click” you get money. You have to trade with other countries to gain more wealth.” - Gabby

Geography: “I learnt about imports and exports and how different countries have less or more resources. It’s important so when I’m older I can help the poorer countries.” - Eldho

Music: “I like different kinds of music and it sounds awesome. I like to show my talent.” - Sheila

Music: “I learnt some Hawaiian which is a new language to me.” - Daisy

D.T.: I like D.T. because it was fun to experiment with different shapes and see what was strong and weak.” - Olivia

DT: “I liked how me and Daniel were really creative in our bridge building.” - Alfonso
