National Reading Championships:

A very big well done to our pupils across the partnership that partook in the "National Reading Champions Quiz," as part of the South East Regional Heats! This built upon our 'Partnership Championships' held earlier in the month.

27 teams took part in the championships across the region, including schools from Guildford, Surrey and Sandwich in Kent.

The competition was open to pupils aged 10-14, so many secondary schools were also partaking, and was designed to find out which school had the best knowledge of children's literature!

Pupils had to partake in quick fire questions about children's books (classic and modern), as well as answer questions that relied on skill and luck, such as anagrams and true and false questions.

Although we have not progressed to the finals in London, we are thrilled to announce that Bitterne Park Primary were awarded the "Best Newcomer" award- for which they will receive a prize in May!

Final standings:

6th Place - Bitterne Park Primary Team A

9th Place - Bitterne Park Primary Team B

17th Place - Holy Family Catholic Primary School Team A

Joint 19th Place - Sinclair Primary & Nursery School Team A and Team B

Joint 22nd Place - Holy Family Catholic Primary School Team A and Mansel Park Primary & Nursery Team A

25th Place- Our Lady & St Joseph Catholic Primary School Team B

26th Place - Mansel Park Primary & Nursery School Team B

27th Place - Our Lady & St Joseph Catholic Primary School Team A

It was a tightly fought contest and we are very proud of our students' achievements in their very first 'professional' outing as a literacy team! Well done to all that took part, we are hoping to partake in the championships again next year!
