Year 3 - Blog update

Year 3 have made such an impressive start to this new academic year, and have been trying their best across all subject areas!

In Maths, we have been working hard on consolidating our old knowledge of place value while also gaining new knowledge to challenge us. We have learnt about the hundreds place value column which built upon our Year 2 knowledge of tens and ones. This also helped us when we learnt a new method – the column method – to add two three-digit numbers together.

In English, we have been focusing on the World’s Worst Children by David Walliams. We have LOVED this book, and have thoroughly enjoyed writing a narrative all about the characters and how they act at school! Along with our narrative, we also wrote a non-chronological report. This was so much fun because we got to think of our own characters and how we can use our creative toolkit of adjectives and chatty language to show the reader just how horrible they are.

In Science, we have been learning about rocks. We learnt about the three types of rocks (Igneous, Sedimentary and Metamorphic) and discussed how each of them are formed. We did some fun experiments all around the permeability of rocks and soils – we loved seeing how mucky our teachers’ hands got!

In Geography, we have become geographers, with a focus on the United Kingdom. Our atlas skills have improved, as we used them to locate the rivers, mountains and counties across the UK. It was great to learn more about the geography behind the country we live in.
